We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a two year period, beginning as soon as possible in Autumn 2011. The post is funded by the Faculty of Humanities to contribute towards its Roman ports initiative, led by the AHRC funded Portus Project under the direction of Professor Simon Keay.

Applications are welcome from archaeologists or classicists specializing in the field of study of Roman Mediterranean ports

The successful candidate, who will show outstanding potential as an archaeologist or ancient historian, will be expected to develop a personal research project centred upon a particular aspect of a major Roman port/group of ports to complement the ongoing work of the Portus Project, and be expected disseminate research in formats consistent with REF targets.

You will have a PhD or equivalent, and experience in Roman Archaeology or Classics, as well as a detailed understanding and knowledge of Roman Mediterranean ports, and the economy, society, and culture of the Roman Empire.
