Find out about the Bredon Hill Hoard

3:50pm Thursday 3rd November 2011

A SPECIAL event to showcase the latest archaeological discoveries from Worcestershire has been organised.

The highlight will be a presentation on the discovery and significance of the Bredon Hill Roman coin hoard.

Currently on display at Worcester City Museum and Art Gallery, the hoard was found by Redditch resident Jethro Carpenter and includes almost 4,000 Roman coins, depicting a total of 16 different Roman Emperors.

It was a major significance not only for the county but also the country.

The event is being held by the Worcestershire Historic Environment and Archaeology group, and will see a full programme of talks about recent archaeological projects and ongoing research, accompanied by displays and bookstalls.

There will be talks on the excavation of part of civil war defences and on an excavation of late Anglo-Saxon burials, along with many more.

Organiser Hal Dalwood said: "The year has been an exceptional year for new and important archaeological discoveries in the county.

"This year's dayschool will be a fantastic opportunity for everybody to hear about those discoveries in depth from the archaeologists who led the excavations, and also to hear about the development of better understanding of the county's past."

The event is on Saturday, November 12 from 9.45am to 5.30pm, at the University of Worcester.

The cost is £15 and pre-booking is essential.
