Saving Hadrian's Wall

A few pictures I took of the section of Wall mentioned in the below post, prior to its preservation. You can see the classic neat cut Roman Wall stone very clearly and the farmer would simply pile up on top of the Wall any new fallen stone, in an effort to rebuild it.

This section was once one of the best remaining parts along the Wall, but over recent decades much of it has fallen down, but at least now this rare bit has been consolidated for future generations.

It makes me smile now as I did upset a few people when I spoke out about the need to preserve it, but as there are so few decent sections of the Wall still standing, ruffling the feathers of a few people who should have been doing their job much better, was no bad thing.
